About the midwife
Irena Freystaetter, LM, CPM
Welcome, I’m so glad you are here! I am Irena, a homebirth midwife in Greenville, SC. I have always been fascinated by birth, babies, and the marvel that is the human body, so when I heard about midwifery, I knew that was the path I needed to take.
I began my journey to midwifery in 2013, attending the Midwives College of Utah, a 4 year MEAC accredited program. I trained at a high volume birth center in Argyle, Texas, apprenticing under several midwives while I was there. I completed my training and became a Certified Professional Midwife in 2018. We moved the the Upstate, and I worked with Labors of Love Birth Center from 2020-2024.
While I highly value the experiences I’ve had working in birth center practices, after 3 lovely home births of my own, I am so excited to be focusing on home births!
When I am not with moms and babies, I am home with my 3 young children and my husband. We have loved living in Greenville and spend our free time hiking, biking the Swamp Rabbit Trail, and checking out all the fun family-friendly spots in town.

My approach
I believe that pregnancy and birth are natural functions of the body. Like other bodily functions (breathing, digestion, etc), most often, it proceeds without problems. A midwife is there to offer support, resources, and guidance through the uncomplicated pregnancy, and trained to recognize and support if complications arise.
Collaborative Care
We are a team through your pregnancy. Throughout your care, we will talk a lot about ways to take care of yourself to optimize the health of your pregnancy.
Informed Decisions
You are the ultimate decision maker in your pregnancy. I am here to provide you with information and resources for you to make fully informed decisions.
